Picking aluminum colors
Field notes on anodization, and why choosing six colors took three months.

Anodized aluminum does not behave like a Pantone book. The same dye reads differently across alloys, finishes and even batches, so picking a color palette for a keyboard run is less like design and more like negotiation.

The long way to six colors
These notes walk through the samples, the rejects, and the small chemistry lessons that eventually produced a palette worth machining.
